Just as BC Hospitality Group accepted Copenhagen City's much-coveted Copenhagen Business Award 2018 for the group's wide-ranging sustainability initiatives, it rounded off the same week by taking home a Danish Events & Meetings Award 2018 (DEMA18) by MPI Denmark for its Responsible Hospitality Day 2017' initiative. The group is pleased to see the local meetings & event industry embracing the need for further discussion, innovation and knowledge sharing of sustainability.

At the recent Danish Events & Meetings Awards (DEMA18), hosted by MPI Denmark (the local chapter of Meeting Professionals International) for the meeting and events industry, BC Hospitality Group took home one of the eight prestigious DEMA awards. The award came in recognition of the group's extensive efforts in the field of sustainability and followed on the heels of a Copenhagen Business Award that same week.

In its statement on awarding BC Hospitality Group the "Non-profit" award for the establishment of a new sustainability conference called "Responsible Hospitality Day", the DEMA18 jury wrote: "The jury would have liked to attend this event, which brought an important issue to light and gathered leading industry figures, including competitors, to embrace a strong industry responsibility."

Morten Jensen, Marketing Director at BC Hospitality Group and one of the minds behind Responsible Hospitality Day 2017, welcomes the recognition and hopes that it will be accompanied by true action:

"Sustainable growth is quite simply the way forward, so why not take proactive action? The group is delighted with the award, as it reflects our success in taking the role as incubator for the creation of a new and important forum where people from inside and outside the industry can discuss and share knowledge, gain inspiration, and network with each other regarding sustainable solutions."

"There's always a bit of a risk when launching an initiative of this nature, but the response has been really good, and we're already a long way into the planning of Responsible Hospitality Day 2018, which is both free and open for all. We hope that the DEMA18 award will help attract even more 'sustainability enthusiasts' to this year's conference on 30 August - especially our companions in the hotel and conference venue industries. In return, we promise to deliver interesting talks, workshops, etc," says Morten Jensen.

DEMA18 started in the afternoon with a conference, where award nominees had the opportunity to give presentations on their initiatives to more than 100 of the evening's 240 attendees.

An expert jury selected the following DEMA18 winners:
