Exhibitors and conference delegates are increasingly dependent on fast and reliable internet connectivity to conduct their business on the road. But more often than not, they are faced with subpar performance when thousands of delegates gather under one roof sharing the same network. Now, BC Hospitality Group is taking extreme measures to give every guest a superior internet experience.

From largely being an extra service for visitors to check their emails on the go, business professionals now expect the wireless network at busy venues to enable them to perform the same tasks on their laptop as they can in the office like streaming video presentations, conducting video conference calls etc.

"Obviously these demands posed a great technological challenge during busy conventions or trade shows. Additionally, Bella Center Copenhagen is spread over more than 100,000 sq. meters with lots of nooks and thick concrete that made it difficult for the signal to reach every corner of the venue," says Kenneth Kjøbmand, IT Director at BC Hospitality Group, the person in charge of implementing the new wireless network service.

6 to 8 times better service than any other venue

BC Hospitality Groups new investment utilises a brand new router technology (802.11ac wave 2). In fact Bella Center Copenhagen becomes the first conference venue in the world to install this technology, which is specifically designed to handle very large numbers of concurrent users on the same network. The project involved technical staff to install nearly 500 access points equipped with intelligent antennas throughout the venue. Bella Center Copenhagen is the first conference venue in the world to use this technology, which can support up to 25,000 concurrent internet users - about 6 to 8 times more than the current standard.

"We know just how much it means for our event organisers, their exhibitors and delegates to be in a venue where they can take care of the digital part of their business, just like at home. We are in the hospitality business, so naturally it also makes sense for us to invest large resources in a superior solution like this one," says Allan Agerholm, Chief Hospitality Officer (CEO) of BC Hospitality Group.
