The internationally acclaimed hotel Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers yet again takes a lead position within Responsible Hospitality. As the first hotel in Denmark, the venue's Restaurant BARK now offers its guests to take away leftovers in a 100% biodegradable TreatboxTM created by Unilever Food Solutions and replacing conventional ones made of plastic and foil.

Fighting Food Waste; New and trendy Treatbox has first performance ever in Denmark at hotel Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Tower's eco-friendly Restaurant BARK.

The brand new TreatboxTM concept has been developed by a partnership whose goal it is to solve the challenges of food waste in professional kitchens. The partnership is made up of Unilever Food Solutions, KLS Pureprint and the REFOOD brand, and now the plan is to introduce the TreatboxTM to restaurants and canteens across the country.

Yes, please! from one of Europe's most sustainable hotels

It is not a co-incidence that the first restaurant in Denmark to incorporate the sustainable TreatboxTM is the new Restaurant BARK at Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers in Copenhagen. BARK's concept is based on a tribute to nature, and the venue is located in Denmark's most prestigious sustainable hotel - whilst overlooking an impressive Atrium of 60 full-grown trees and 4,500 green plants.

Mireille Jakobsen, Group Responsible Hospitality Manager at BARK's owner, BC Hospitality Group, says:

"The TreatboxTM concept fits like a glove with our Group's overall Responsible Hospitality policy, and our tireless efforts to reduce food waste in all our kitchens and restaurants. We are pleased to offer BARK's guests the possibility to bring home any tasty leftovers in a sustainable packaging. The new box is 100% biodegradable, contains no harmful chemicals or heavy metals, is approved for direct food contact, and simply fits perfect with not least Restaurant BARK's green mindset. "

"Time is ripe for a revitalisation of the doggy bag concept in Denmark," adds Dung Nguyen, Marketing Manager at Unilever Food Solutions.

"Danish companies and consumers are generally good at combating food waste, but there's no strong tradition for bringing remains from a restaurant visit home. A new survey shows, however, that 75% of the Danes would take their home food, but only 25% have been offered to, and so it seems that time is ripe to give a new lease of life to doggy bags in Denmark," Dung Nguyen continues.

The partnership believe that some of the barriers are rooted in the Danish culture.  in the past, asking for a doggy bag would be considered penny-pinching, but with food waste now high on the agenda in Danish society, it makes more sense to introduce the TreatboxTM concept to a much larger audience.
