Six months after Copenhagen won the bid to host the world's largest 'Offshore Wind Energy 2019' conference and exhibition, the capital of sustainable Meetings has been named as host city for a global wind energy summit in 2021. And both events will take place at Scandinavia's largest congress venue; Bella Center Copenhagen.

Copenhagen will host the first ever WindEurope Summit for both onshore and offshore wind energy in 2021. WindEurope, which is the European association for wind energy, is also the organiser of the conference and exhibition in 2019. Both events are expected to attract around 10,000 delegates from across Europe.

WindEurope has previously chosen to place its 2015 EWEA Offshore conference and 2012 Annual Conference in Copenhagen, recognising the city as well as Denmark's role as a global hub for wind energy innovation and development.

"We are incredibly proud that Copenhagen has once again been chosen as host destination for a major WindEurope event. It is the result of a very successful partnership and collaboration over two decades between WindEurope and the destination partners, public as well as private. A conference such a WindEurope is not merely benefitting venues and hotels in Copenhagen, but also confirms Greater Copenhagen and Denmark's position as a leader in wind energy, renewables and sustainable solutions," says Kit Lykketoft, Director of Convention at Wonderful Copenhagen.

The 2021 summit will be held at Scandinavia's largest meeting and congress venue Bella Center Copenhagen, which will also host 'Offshore Wind Energy 2019. Bella Center Copenhagen has previously hosted WindEurope's EWEA Offshore conference and exhibition in 2015 as well as the 2012 Annual Conference.

"This is great news for the destination and Bella Center Copenhagen. Naturally, we are delighted to see that our professionalism and modern facilities in combination with a strong strategic focus on Responsible Hospitality is highly appreciated by our clients too, and we look forward to welcoming WindEurope and its many delegates back to Bella Center Copenhagen on both occasions in the near future," says Allan L. Agerholm, CEO of Bella Center Copenhagen and BC Hospitality Group.

Denmark was the first country to install offshore wind turbines and the country continues to be a driving force in the development of cutting edge wind energy technology. With a wind industry that is globally recognised, the country provides an ideal platform for the global wind industry to come together to discuss and exchange knowledge.

Adding to this, Copenhagen is one of the world's most popular convention cities, ranking 4th in total number of participants in ICCA's 2017 report.
