Solid success for BC Hospitality Group in Copenhagen paves the way for further expansion

2016 was yet another record-breaking year for BC Hospitality Group in Copenhagen, Denmark. The group consolidated its business with growth in both the top and bottom line while at the same time making substantial investments in product development within the group's many well-known brands.

"We are making the most of the record profit and the group's robust financial position with significant investments and ongoing quality improvements within, for example, service and experiences for guests, innovative and sustainable solutions and digital technology across the group's various brands. Without no doubt, we have succeeded in furthering the positive development of our existing business, not least in renewing the Bella Center Copenhagen, which in 2016 bounced back strongly and delivered a record-breaking year in terms of the number of congress delegates. Altogether, the group welcomed no fewer than 1.5 million guests in 2016, which marks a rock solid starting point, but the order books are also full looking ahead, and all the group's hotels are heading towards new, market-leading records in 2017," says Allan L. Agerholm, Chief Hospitality Officer, BC Hospitality Group.

Expansion on the cards
Supported by a profitable 2016, BC Hospitality Group wants to further consolidate the group's position as Europe's most innovative and flexible exhibition and congress operator and hotel business. A strategy, which will be realised in no small part through future expansion:

"Our business strategy works and is creating room for further growth. We have many concrete projects in the pipeline, and we are now further raising our ambitions. For example, we are looking to acquire several leading Danish/international hotel brands for our portfolio, and here we are thinking of brands that will continue to give us competitive advantages vis-à-vis other players in the market - brands which also deliver guest experiences at a very high international level," continues Allan L. Agerholm.

Milestones in 2016

  • Revenue totalled DKK 1,135 million (compared to DKK 976 million in 2015) - up 16%.
  • Earnings from primary operations (EBITDAR) improved by 54% to DKK 214 million against DKK 139 million in 2015.
  • Guest satisfaction at the group's hotels was extremely high, and in 2016 all three venues retained their positions in the TripAdvisor top 20 with Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Tower in the top 3, Copenhagen Marriott in the top 10 and AC Bella Sky Copenhagen in the top 20 (out of 116 Copenhagen hotels).
  • AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen was named by the Danish travel industry as the 'Best Hotel in Greater Copenhagen' at the Danish Travel Award 2016.
  • The Marriott's European senior management named the Copenhagen Marriott 'Hotel of the Year 2016'. This was in recognition of the hotel's extraordinary results in terms of RevPAR (revenue per available room), brand activation as well as the efforts made for both customers and employees. It is the first time that a Danish Marriott hotel has won the prize.
  • Each year, BC Hospitality Group participates in the Great Place to Work initiative, and in 2016 AC Hotel Bella Sky Copenhagen and Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers were ranked among the 30 most attractive and accommodating medium-sized workplaces in Denmark.
  • Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers was also awarded Great Place to Work's Diversity Award 2016 for the hotel's long-standing efforts to support inclusion in the workplace.
  • Sustainable Hospitality is still a key element in the business - read all about the group's many different sustainability initiatives in our recently published CSR report 2016.
  • Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Tower II is inaugurated, and renowned international businesses such as Vestas, Ericsson and Novo Nordisk have since moved into the group's new, state-of-the-art office complex.
